China is a serious threat. But this article is more that six months old. And there has been no “horrible surprise”. So I’m guessing that someone needs to recalibrate their crystal ball.

China prefers not to use military power to obtain their objectives. Frankly, they could not achieve air superiority against us nor could they achieve naval supremacy except within the South China Sea by use of anti-ship missiles with limited range.
The “West” tends to view conflict as a strictly military exercise of power. Trump understood China far better than any leader in our history and he was blunting their efforts effectively.
Now the Chinese view the Biden administration as weak and corrupt. Xi is not getting any younger and his impatience grows to achieve the goals of the CCP. It is not a big leap or illogical to predict more brutish action by the CCP who likely does not fear a military conflict with this administration.
To understand the aims of the CCP you only have to read their internal state media. They are back to demonizing the US by using the democrats own words from the last 4 years.
The segment on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria B interviewing Grenell should be a must watch today for everyone. Grenell is very smart and he understands the game being played far better than the “pundit class”.

Biden gives a true representative depiction of our country.
There may be an incident with a loss of life but there simply will not be a war. In fact the Chinese have no desire to fight the American military. Nor do they really intend to take severe casualties by invading Taiwan. They fully expect that the people on Taiwan will eventually capitulate rather than fight. If they do decide to use their overbuilt military ( which is unproven in both quality and effectiveness), it will be against Russia’s underpopulated wealthy Pacific regions and the treasurehouse of Siberia. China also longs to have its vengance on Japan. America will one day realize that General MacArthur was wise and prescient. American involvement in war on or near the Asian mainland does nothing to enhance the security or well being of the American people. America’s true intrests and line of defense forms much further East in the Pacific. The Asian nations have to work out their own consensus dealing with China.
I won’t be surprised.

A weak president and a reckless, arrogant SecDef is not a good combination for a looming military conflict.

While I do not want to see a conflict with China, it is clear that Biden is setting us up for one. On the positive side if one can see the positive side to this, commerce with China will end immediately. It would be very hard to see how Biden could explain allowing continued commerce with China.
