But why? What’s he hoping to prove? The media won’t cover it. The Federal government won’t care. The CDC and Dr. Fauci will continue to bleat their orders to the American public who will willingly lap it up in the name of “science.”

The country is really going to need this guy. Florida’s loss will be America’s gain.

Yes! DeSantis is the man! He’s trying to get a rational, non-politically motivated, non-panic inducing narrative out there.

The Florida liberals HATE him, btw. They want to be afraid.

When DeSantis runs for reelection, he will be able to cite the advice and comments from these experts as helping to guide his coronavirus policies. Florida’s demographics and population turnover tend to make gubernatorial reelections a close run thing.

But not in Florida. So when the critics come he can back it up with, SCIENCE.

“tend to make gubernatorial reelections a close run thing.”

My understanding was he cleaned up the corruption in Dade and Broward counties by firing the officials in charge in each county. The last presidential election was not near as close.

I wonder if this is the prelude to dropping all restrictions in Florida. That’s my guess.

But why? What's he hoping to prove? The media won't cover it.

The local media will and it will resonate with Florida residents, the people that vote in Florida elections, that pay Florida taxes, that send their kids to schools, the ones that count to gubbernor DeSantis.

As in many states, the core strength of the Democratic Party in Florida consists of the minority vote, the news media, and the nonprofit sector, and unions, especially public employee unions. Since the news media and leading Florida Democrats have made clear that they hope to oust DeSantis by blaming him for the harms of the coronavirus pandemic, DeSantis is well-advised to develop public expressions of support for his policies by leading medical experts. Hence the public conference.

As for Trump's strong showing in Florida in 2020, it was due to the success of Trump's policies in boosting employment at the lower end of the economy, Trump's appeal to non-GOP cultural conservatives, and his larger than life strength and dynamism in attracting Hispanic support. Among Hispanic friends and at social events among south Florida Hispanics in 2016 and 2020, I was astonished that the fervor of support for Trump exceeded that of Reagan in 1980 and 1984.

Florida will turn blue in 2024 federal elections....The invasion is on going...a million a year equals four million...houses are on the market a week or two and the invaders are buying them...the natives cannot afford a house down here now..

House bought for 660,000 sold for 830,000 in nine months

I am old enough to recall similar predictions of doom for Florida Republicans from federal Motor Voter registration at DMV offices. The net effect though was to boost GOP registration and help secure a generation of Republican victories. Why was that?

Paradoxically, many of the new residents from up North were registered independents or covert Republicans who registered Democrat in their one party rule home states but eagerly registered Republican in Florida because the state was politically competitive.

Moreover, with retirement, many cultural conservatives from the North who were Democrats underwent a rapid change in political philosophy to conservative and Republican. Even retired government employees tended to change their political philosophy and allegiance because in Florida they were suddenly tax payers instead of active tax eaters.

The exception was Jewish liberal retired teachers from New York City. Settling in Palm Beach near Boca Raton, they now form a comically and resolutely leftwing Democrat voting bloc eagerly courted by Democratic candidates. A Jewish Republican friend of mine in Palm Beach -- also a New York transplant -- groans whenever I mention them.
