RALEIGH, N.C. - A Raleigh man has been classified as a "domestic terrorist" by federal authorities and sentenced to 30 months in prison for an attempt to set fire to a Raleigh police car during demonstrations in the city last summer that followed the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minnesota.
Jabari Devon Davis was convicted of a single charge of "attempting to damage or destroy by fire a vehicle owned or possessed by an institution receiving federal financial assistance."
Court documents show that on May 31 Davis tried to throw a Molotov cocktail into a parked Raleigh Police Department vehicle parked in the department's lot at the Southeast District Station on Rock Quarry Road.
After his arrest, Davis told investigators that he and a friend left protests in downtown Raleigh, filled a bottle with gasoline and put a sock in to the mouth of the bottle. He said he "set the bottle with the sock on fire and threw it toward several parked police vehicles. However, when he threw it, the burning sock fell out, catching the grass and straw on fire."

This case exposes an evolving strategy to apply the ‘domestic terrorist’ label as a weapon.
Now it applies to UN-occupied vehicles of an agency which receives federal assistance.
I will bet that those charged with trespassing at the Capitol will receive more than 30 months. Some of them could be in jail that long just awaiting trial.
