I think a better way to frame it is how many households owned slaves in the Southern states. Like church statistics, what % of households pledge monthly.
Last time I did the arithmetic, I seem to recall that 30% of all households across all 11 Southern states owned slaves in 1860.

Hard to believe that when the Beatles came to USA in the 1960s adults thought they were trashy with their “long hair”. Look at photos of what they looked like, neat haircuts, suits and ties. Looked like school boys especially compared to how “entertainers” look now!
