SAN DIEGO (CBSLA) — Three people were killed Monday in a crash near San Diego City College.
Nine people were struck when a car drove up on a sidewalk in a downtown tunnel near San Diego City College. Three people were declared dead at the scene and nine others have been taken to the hospital. Two people are in critical condition.
The driver, a 71-year-old man, has been taken into custody and is being investigated for driving while impaired.
Authorities say the driver was westbound on B Street, the street that runs underneath the college’s Curran Plaza, when he veered to the right and into pedestrians on the sidewalk. The driver then veered back onto the street just before the end of the tunnel.
The unidentified man remained at the scene and tried to help the pedestrians, police said.
1. Send your homeless into a dark tunnel.
2. Send in disoriented old people.
3. Send body bags.
Unless it is in a crosswalk, I really have no sympathy for those hit by cars. And even then, the traffic light has to be in the pedestrian’s favor.
But that doesn’t include sidewalks.
It appears the driver was impaired and his victims were on a sidewalk.
At age 71, he will die in prison.
If the driver is an illegal, he can walk, no problem.
He may have been legally medically impaired. Or just the fact the driving into a dark tunnel disoriented him. At least he stopped to render aid. I hope he’ll be OK.
The real cause of blame here is the city. They should never have allowed these tent people to live in this type of dangerous environment.
I thought liberal cities in Commie-fornia put these bums up in (formerly nice) hotels.
I think tunnels are a preferred location for the tent people.
What’s shocking about this story is that the term “homeless” was used with a Democrat government in place. That’s typically reserved for slamming Republicans...
A tunnel is just a cave with two openings.
Users should be called cavemen, if not Neanderthals.
“He may have been legally medically impaired.”
How can one be legally impaired while driving?
Whether he was drunk or impaired by medication, he is responsible for his actions.
He is likely going to prison.
He is likely going to prison.

Doubt it.
All the facts are not in yet.
What? 71 is now “old”?
He drove on a sidewalk, killed people and he was impaired.
That’s prison time.
What? 71 is now “old”?
depends which side one is looking at 71
“Is this the way to Country Kitchen Buffet?”
I was coming off the George Washington Bridge into New York City last year. I was pulling a large enclosed trailer with outboard wheels and fenders.
I came over a slight rise and saw some vagrant moron standing on the white line holding a cardboard sign. (like anyone is going to stop on the freeway to give him money)
I couldn’t stop nor could I move over. Honestly, I don’t know how my fender didn’t take him out. It was that close.
I don’t scare easily but that one really got my attention.
I don’t see much difference between these homeless people on the sidewalk and Antifa/BLM scum deliberately standing in the road to block traffic.
Stupid should hurt.
What? 71 is now “old”?
When one is 82 and rapidly heading into 83, being 71 is a mere child.
He drove on a sidewalk, killed people and he was impaired.
Until the investigation is complete, and until the DA decides what if anything to charge, and if charged a trail is held, and then if found guilty a judge will determine the sentence.
There is a long way between today and the final outcome is determined so I still have doubts about any prison time.
