Direct Deposit or those stupid Debit Cards?

I called the info number regarding “Where’s my check?” mostly out of curiosity last Friday. The person that answered was articulate, well spoken and surprisingly well informed. Until I asked about the check/debit card thing and she didn’t have an good answer. She went to a script and said that that was a complicated issue decided by many factors at the Treasury Dept.

I wonder how much it cost the guv’ment to set up the process for those one-time debit cards ...

And then stop using them for their intended purpose?

Makes me wonder if that was just another pay off to a banking friend that had a surplus of plastic to sell?
