My brother and I were kids and I think we saw that film at least 3 times.

Love it. When I was a kid, cable TV was so new that they were testing it in a dozen different markets. Our town was one of them. First-run movies in constant rotation. “Dirty Harry,” “Vanishing Point,” “Electraglide in Blue,”. “Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.”

Me too about seeing it at the drive in. My girlfriend and just stared at each other at the end of the movie. The drive home was slow and careful.

Great movie, TCM played the uncut version with Charlotte Rampling as a hitchhiker fairly recently. One of those crazy flawed 70s movies that had a lot of heart. That awesome white challenger wound out tight sounded great in that movie. Another one of those with cool cars is the original Gone in 60 Seconds.

Saw it twice back-to-back in the theater when I was 10. Was so disappointed with the ending.

My uncle had a Challenger of that vintage. He gave it away after becoming convinced he’d die in it if he kept it. Guess what happened within a year. :(

Me too and I seem to remember having a discussion along the lines of “surely you can ride my motorcycle in the nude just like her, can’t you?”

First saw this in CA, when I was in the Army.
Since then...I’ve watched that movie dozens of times, and I’ve enjoyed it every damn time!

1971 was a very eclectic and existential year for movies, a trend that continued on for much of the 1970s.

‘Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry’, ‘Return to Macon County’, and the original ‘Gumball Rally’ come to mind.

Toad’s scooter in American Graffiti was pretty mean.
