Bummer. Extraordinary talent, hard worker, and decent guy. 66 way too early.
Brockton born. What a monster he was in the ring. My wife was a new reporter still in college interviewed him a couple of times. Nice guy.
Rest In Peace.
I remember him from the early days, when he was coming up in Brockton, fighting guys like Bennie Brisco, and Willie “The Worm” Monroe out of Philly. His trainer was named Petronelli, and there was a young Petronelli coming up the same time as he was, who showed promise, but didn’t hit the big time like Marvelous Marvin.
He lost a few fights along the way, but very few. With the exception of Leonard, he got rematches with each of them, and made short work of them.
Roberto Duran...Alexis Arguello...Aaron Pryor. Anybody remember Gerry Cooney??...lol....
I could be wrong but my impression is boxing doesn’t lend itself to longevity.
Oh, no, that sucks. I always liked Hagler.
Just dropped dead? They dont say why he died. Rough life.
Hagler, Hearns, Sugar Ray, Duran, best fighting era, ever!
Roberto Duran. Man, he was CRAZY. no mas. One of the best...
See, your perspective is all wrong. Glory scoffs at longevity...
I couldn’t find that one, but as the Mom of a man who has made me cringe many times, I like this one.
Agree. Hagler-Hearns enthralled me as a kid. One of the greatest fights ever. I’ve watched it on youtube periodically over the years. RIP champ.
i do too...probably will tonight!!..lol...that first round was just stunning. Absolute bombs away...no playing around. I remember the one announcer yelling “this is still the first round!”....
Speculation rampant on Twitter that he died from after-effects of the COVID vaccine.
Arguello + Pryor.
Duran seemed kind of unhinged all the time...lol...he was a beast.
The memorable thing about that match is that it took place in London, and because of Minter being cut early and losing via referee stoppage, a riot in the arena ensued.
RIP Marvelous.
This is surprising. You never heard about Hagler having the problems typical of retired boxers. He took an Italian lady as his second wife and lived the last twenty years in Milan. Legend taken too soon.
