The little video clip at the link is higher quality than the two gifs below. The post asks the viewer to imagine what it was like to face a mounted Mongolian archer 800 years ago. I believe the sound track to this clip is traditional Mongolian music. The combination was quite effective in my opinion.
What about the women?
They killed 10% of the entire population of the world during their expansion. And they didn’t touch the Americas, Africa, western Europe, southern India. So, roughly, 30 to 50% of the people they conquered died at their hands, and in some places, every single human being.
Killing was plain pleasure for them, and they are not unique. What is a psychopath but someone whom indulges in that pleasure as an individual without the license of war?
One reason I believe in God is that there’s any good in us at all, descended as we all are from murderers and rapists, conquerors and enslavers.
Mongols, Mohammedans, Mughals, Aztecs, Incas, Zulus...could anyone who knew world history ever accuse Europeans of unique evil, or accept the stain of white guilt?
Actually you really didn’t want to fight them anywhere. The Muslims found that out when they messed with Genghis Khan
Blazing Saddles reference
Our women and children stampeded and our cattle raped...
10,000 years ago, there weren’t people we could call Mongols.
Food... The Mongolians had the best camp food. They set up a camp, started a fire and grilled mass amounts of meat over the fire. He claimed they were world class grillers.
Fighting style... Part of the time, my buddy was based out of Kabul. Taliban had frequent small scale but violent attacks on government and civilian targets. Coalition forces were based in fortified combat posts scattered in the city.
When there was a Taliban raid, according to my buddy, Americans and western forces in general would go by a playbook in their response. This was along the line of gather intelligence, assemble a reaction force and transport, drive to the fighting, deploy per plan and the fighting was largely over with by the time their overwhelming force was in position. Now though, the Mongols would leave the camp fire, grab their AKs and run to the sound of the guns. They wanted to get in on the fighting and did.
Mongolians were true badasses. There were none better at warfare in their time.
I would recommend Kusugtun for great Mongolian music.
Better to believe God than to believe in God
Romans 3
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes
LOL, it just had to be....:)
Which way is more accurate?
Read a kind of popular biography on Jenjiss Khan some years back, vicious, cruel and monstrous but it was actually rather clensing in the sense of a man striking deep for something he wanted believed in...letting nothing hold him back.
Catapulting poor tortured messengers back inside the fortifications, scalped, peeled, burned, the sling-shotted over the wall with messages like: We will give you five minutes to decide: join with us or die slow and as this roasted numbskull.
Capitulation was almost universal although there were a few lunatic warrior gangs who decided to take their chances, unwisely.
Concentrated research led me to the finding that those weren’t solar panels at all but were handmade pinochle tables that the Mongol hordes used to lull (or dull) the senses of some of the fiercest of their violent enemies.
The tradition continues today with a good many Scandinavian families cutting their family numbers (as well as the cards)on holidays, these once gentle get-togethers now largely taken over by cigaret swordfights, swizzlestic eye- gouging, drink tossing and on occasion murders by metal braces, canes and walkers.
Terrible, terrible.
“Amazon” may even mean “Without breast,” but that’s disputed.
Reading the Genghis series by Conn Igulden and he claims that an arrow from a Mongolian bow would knock a man off of his horse . . . even if it hits padding and doesn’t pierce the skin.
