Just ridiculous! Prescott isn't even that good. He had a good rookie year... AND THAT'S IT.
Just another dumb@ss decision by Jerry Jones.

At least one of the sports media articles said that Prescott blinked, and should have played this year on a tag, and been a free agent next year.

Being that that Dallas Cowboys never make it to the playoffs, that’s $2.5 million per game.

are people really still watching NFL, how can they pay so much
To: Conserv
Next thing you know, taxpayers will be voting to tax themselves to pay players’ salaries.

Nothing could ever top that ridiculous contract to Ezekiel Elliott. Between those two, good luck signing anyone else.

Yup - but the Cowboys are in no position to replace him with anyone better and franchise tagging him would run up a huge bill and guarantee an unhappy starting QB.
It's the same situation all over the league - adequate but not great QBs (Jimmy Garoppolo, Jared Goff) get record-setting deals. If their contract guy is smart and Prescott declines over the next year or two, they'll be able to cut him with little cap impact later.

Do they have enough room under the salary cap for this? Obviously they do, but, this has got to limit their flexibility to sign other players .

That is 2.5 million per game in a 16 game season. No wonder Russell Wilson is whining, he will be earning only 2 mil each Sunday next year. Insanity.

He’s just good enough to be difficult to replace.

Wilson’s not upset about money. Wilson’s upset about a team plan that seems to be either he hands it off or gets sacked.

Too many teams. The quality of play in the NFL would be much improved if they got rid of about ten teams. There simply aren’t enough good quarterbacks to go around.

“History will remember that Dallas could have had Prescott for far cheaper and a far more lengthy deal if it had worked to get ahead of the quarterback contract curve following the 2018 season, Prescott’s third year as a starter. It didn’t, perhaps believing that Prescott’s market would ultimately settle far lower than it ultimately did.”
So you put your future in the hands of a quarterback that you think has a declining value ...
