Following the rise in popularity of the Detroit-style pizza pie, Pizza Hut released its own version of the square-shaped midwestern classic back in January. Promising a thick, caramelized crust and cheese that stretches all the way to the edges in all directions, it was supposed to be a slam dunk launch for the chain that no one can out-pizza. Unfortunately, based on a mostly negative response to the pie on social media and in some food publications, it sounds like Pizza Hut may have inadvertently created the most disliked pizza in the country (at the moment…) instead.
You'd think that a pizza created with laser-like precision (it includes exactly 32 pepperoni slices) and one that had gone through 500 iterations in the year it took to develop it would leave no room for error. Sure, "everyone's a critic" is certainly true with every fast-food novelty, and some negative comments are par for the course, but it looks like Pizza Hut may have gotten it genuinely wrong with the regional favorite.
According to Deadline Detroit, locals have taken offense at the chain's mass-produced pie for its weak resemblance to the cheesy, crusty, deep-dish legend that has put their city on the national pizza map.

I’ll take Fino’s in Houston. Good old-fashioned greasy and delicious pizza.
I can’t eat big chain store pizza anymore. It’s all so bland.
Have not tried it, but it should taste no different than a thin or thick crust or pan pizza made with the same ingredients. Looks like it would be messier to eat, though.
Dang, now I want some Vernors.
Hard to find down here in TX.
I actually spent a few weeks back in 1988 working on the old Vernor estate. Given the state it was back in then, it’s probably gone back to wilderness now. Or else it’s a subdivision. No idea.
And even if I get back in the neighborhood, I doubt I’ll go looking.
Thanks.
“Reminds me off the Cinnabon-pizza atrocity.”
“Pizzatrocity.” I’m stealing that.
The grease stains indicate freshness and REAL CHEESE
Tell me! I Love Vernors and lived in
Tx for 27 yrs!

LOL. I thought it was a “slice of heaven”? At least that’s what it said on the side of the box from Costco. They use to sell it frozen.
I made that mistake awhile ago too. If I wanted to eat a cheap pizza I might as well go with Tony’s and save money.
Buddy’s was the only pizza I would eat. Loved the greek salad, too. Is it still there? I will have to go when we visit the grandkids.
“I think CT had the worst Mexican food I ever experienced.”
Likewise - disgusting!
But hey! they have Lymes for the skunky Corona!
Never spend more frozen pizza than Red Barron’s, Doctor it up and snarfle it while it is hot, left overs are a losers bet. ;)
Pizza Huts excursions into the art of crust is a bad joke.
All that is remotely edible is the original crust.
Domino is a freakin joke, who cuts bell pepper into thin huge rings and puts them on top to dry out??
Call me a pizza snob.
I tried it....it inhaled immensely! (Sucked) Sauce tasted strange.
Just the fact that they call that crap pizza signifies just how far the once-great Detroit has fallen. Hopefully, sooner than later, it simply gets removed from the map.
I blame it on pizza hut, not Detroit.
