Took me a while to go through that. A secular view that seeks to control behavior, got it.
The massive hole in the theory is the total lack of discussion of how pedophilia, once celebrated in Greco-Roman cultures, was dealt with when Christian Integration was accomplished. It is interesting that the two competing ideas actually had different names to describe pedophilic relationships. The Roman term retained a sense of love, while the Christian term denoted destruction/destructive behavior.
Another interesting thing is there is an absolute absence of written “how to” bring a new convert out of pedophilia; leaving several theories. The primary one being is they just stopped or were removed from the assembly until they had a change of heart (true repentance).
My source is “The Christian and Pedophilia: Applying Biblical Counseling to Christians Struggling with Pedophilia,” a doctoral thesis by Benjamin W Marshall at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He admits there is a dearth written on the topic from a Christian point of view, but his thesis is noteworthy, a very interesting read.
I ignore tomes which pose pedophilia as a cultural norm or “difference” as useless and counter productive.
Stats on released pedophiles show re-offending despite treatment.
So if there is a spiritual success rate not spoken of, then I regard time in prison the natural consequence for evil actions that cannot/should not be dispensed with, but that spiritual revival while in prison, among pedophiles is to be cultivated. Forgiveness of sin, grace, is treasured - but it is not a ‘get out of jail’ card. Actions have consequences.
