What’s the situation down there re: shutdowns, etc? I’m up here in upper/western NY. It’s very nice, not at all as imagined by those unfamiliar with the area. However it is still subject to the dictatorship in Albany as decreed by the country’s most disgusting governor. I am contemplating a weeks vacation in an area I can live a normal life for a week.....
Stay away from Florida, snakes, gators, hurricanes and old people. Go to California or Georgia please.
why?
Do NOT come to Sarasota....you will HATE the beauty!!! :)
Do it! Chas one of favorite cities. Do al fresco lunch at 82 Queen, do drinks on roof of Vendue Inn at sunset, eat a clam pot, eat fish at Hymans, bisquits at Poogans Porch, do a carriage ride tour starting from the slave market, ...
Yes. Agree, completely ;-)
Texans and Floridians should get ‘guest passes’, to visit each other’s states.
You know....since we’re so used to all of the terrible weather, critters and people, already :-)
Cotton was exported from C-town’
And imports?
We recently found out on family search that we are descended from the Rutledges of Charleston SC. One ancestor signed the Declaration of Independence. He must have been quite a courageous man for those times.
These days his accomplishments are overshadowed because he owned a plantation and many slaves.

Imports were largely from Northern cities. Imports from Europe were metals, clothing, furniture, glass and pottery.
If you are implying Charleston was involved In receiving slaves, that business was outlawed in 1808!
“AVOID SAVANNAH, GA”
Why?
If you like to walk and admire architecture, Charleston is a great place for that. You could not see all of the old houses in a week on foot. Wonderful time to visit before the temperature increases.
We have a house on Hilton Head Island and things are fairly normal here. Lots of people originally from your area plus the midwest.
I’d join a number of people suggesting the area around St Augustine. The water is still cold here and sometimes the weather can be chilly at this time of year, so if you want more heat, go further South. But there are many nice places to stay there and nice places to eat.
You might also check out Neptune Beach or even Fernandina. They’re near the Georgia border, nice beaches, restaurants, state parks, etc. Or there’s Georgia itself...they have a great state park system with very affordable cottages that you can rent on-line.
Good luck and have a good time!
Masks are required everywhere on the peninsula. Although I see people walking King and Broad etc. with no masks and I see a lot of people at Colonial Lake without.
I hear they are giving out fines.
Most restaurants are open. Stores require masks in the greater Charleston area.
My church has mask requirement and we are social distancing but a lot of that is to get people back to church.
While I would say the mandates are stricter here than in other parts of SC (it’s the bluest part of the state) it seems pretty lax compared to NY or CA.
Also, we are full. Traffic is insane here and that is not just the tourists.
I remember a Candid Camera episode on the Louisiana and Texas border. They had an actor dressed as a Texas Ranger turning drivers back telling them Texas was full and they would have to wait until people left Texas.
Thinking about it still makes me laugh.
The further one gets outside of the city, the less enforcement one sees of all this COVID malarkey.
I was allured to trying Savannah ( mostly the Riverwalk) but asking around informed me that it would be a big disappointment. For some reason most who’ve been there don’t give specifics but just don’t recommend it.
I went thru an old house or 2. Not fixed up. I guess there was no money in it or the houses were too old to refurbish.
Where did the slaves arrive if it wasn’t Charleston?
HHI.
Its all good.
