I’ve read about how different blood types have different susceptibility to COVID which got me to thinking “I wonder what my blood type is?”
I went through all my medical records and couldn’t find it. I contacted my doctor and was told that they don’t regularly check blood type. Furthermore, they said it is an expensive test and usually not covered by insurance.
I thought we were all supposed to carry our blood type on emergency medical information cards in case you get in an accident and they need to transfuse you.
Needless to say, I was surprised by all this.

If you donate blood or platelets, they will type your blood and tell you. The organization I donate to (NOT Red Cross) also checks cholesterol level AND tests for Wuhan flu antibodies, which I can check online about 5 days after donating.
All this, plus saving lives!

“Expensive test”, LOL! I tested my own blood in biology class when I was 17. Confirmed to be the correct result when I donated blood years later, when they let me (before they didn’t anymore, because I was in Europe at the wrong time, even though I didn’t eat beef.) Anyway, at that time, at least, they would test before a blood donation if you wanted - it’s a very simple, quick test, and I am surprised that in this information age, anyone doesn’t know their blood type.
