Stunning pictures show the astonishing moment a flock of starlings formed the shape of a giant bird over a lake in Ireland.

Photographer James Crombie captured the murmuration over Lough Ennell, Co. Westmeath on Tuesday evening.

Breathtaking footage shows the starlings swooping and diving in unison as they formed the outline of a bird above the water.

We call them “sh*tlings”, “shartlings” or “pig birds”. Actually took down all feeders for a few weeks until they had given up and moved on. I like them a lot better up in the sky in a murmuration...in Ireland. ;)

I tend to favor birds that others don’t like.

Sparrows, starlings, crows, etc.

Somebody’s gotta love ‘em.

I didn’t realize Daphne Du Maurier was the inspiration for The Birds.

Daphne Du Maurier?

And all this time I thought Hitchcock's movie was inspired by Aristophanes' The Birds.

I’m OK with birds in general, but Starlings give me grief a couple of times a year. There is a convenient tree for roosting that partly overhangs my parking area. When a couple of thousand of them take a rest in their migration they frequently pick that tree. The next morning the cars are covered in poop.
