"And New Zealand hit with two recent 7+ earthquakes:"

Iceland and New Zealand are nearly on opposite sides of the Earth. Spherical objects like the Earth can exhibit focal properties that would allow a disturbance on one side of the sphere to emanate pressure waves that then focus on the opposite side of the sphere.

I wonder how much this has been studied.

First I've heard of it, but sound plausible...

Thanks for sharing!

Some think that that is what may have happened with the Chicxulub asteroid impact in the Gulf of Mexico at the time of the dinosaur extinction and the massive lava outpourings in India (the 'Deccan Traps').

The term is called Antipodal. The Deccan Traps in India are Antipodal to the Chicxulub impact crater off the Yucatan.

The Traps began about 1 million years before the Gulf meteor impact. There is speculation that the antipodal force fractured the Traps allowing a much larger volume of Lava to flow from them than was originally occurring.

In other news did you know if you trace the major lines of the Nazca Plains in Peru across the globe that they converge at Angkor Wat in Cambodia?
