COSTA MESA (CBSLA) — The price for a gallon of regular gas has climbed as high as $4.05 in Orange County recently, which is why many drivers headed to Sam’s Club in Fountain Valley, where gas was going for $3.30 per gallon Monday — a full 75 cents cheaper than the most expensive stations.
“Gas keeps going up,” Mandy Hall, a driver, said. “I don’t know how they can justify doing like 10 to 20 cents a day, every time I turn around.”
According to the Auto Club of Southern California, gas prices in Los Angeles County have hit their highest rates since December 2019, with self-serve regular gasoline getting more expensive for most of February.
The average price Monday was $3.74 per gallon in L.A. County, following 20 consecutive days of price increases.
And in Orange County, the news was not much better with gasoline prices increasing for 21 straight days to $3.73 for a gallon of self-serve regular gas.
“I think it’s outrageous,” Timothy Bortvit, a driver, said. “It shouldn’t fluctuate that much just because there’s a problem some place, I don’t think. It’s gouging.”
So what’s actually causing the price of gas to go up? Experts say the recent spike is due to gas stations switching to a more expensive product known as a summer blend.

up about 40 cents where i live
Where’d you get gas at $1.89? $2.60 here in the Ozarks.
Erections have consequences. Somebody always gets screwed one way or the other
Jimmy Carter redux
With President Donald J Trump we had energy independence and with Biden we’ve got rising gas prices.
Thanks Biden, for nothing .
What a disaster this guy is.
Everything is going up.
When it comes to connecting cause & effect, Democrat voters are stupid beyond rational belief.
We had a dog that I swear understood the relationship between cause and effect better than liberals do - since they don’t even get the concept. Yes, it was dog related things, but he didn’t need multiple occurrences to get the message. I miss that guy.
It’s amazing how no matter how cheap gas gets, people think that’s the “normal” price, and any rise above that is “too high”.
Supply and demand and environmental regs. Those are the big price movers.
Under Bush II oil went from $34 a barrel to $147 a barrel to $7 a barrel. Right now it’s at $60, a very normal price. Prices have been unusually low for a year. Count your blessings.
And people are griping about a dime.
So called “green energy” has a high cost. It is an additional barrier when having to consider massively cheaper alternatives like gas. Now we have the radical left in charge the only direction gas prices will go is up. They will strangle supply while we exit COVID lockdowns - the result will be higher demand and gas prices will shoot up.
Above should read $27 a barrel, not $7.
Just filled up @ $2.39/gallon
😭😭
I remember the Costco at I-17 just north of Union Hills once being out of gas entirely for a few weeks in March.
Elections have consequences. As does crippling the Texas electric grid in the middle of an unusual cold snap, thus taking drilling and refining offline.
It will take WEEKS for oil and gas supplies to recover. Expect higher prices to last a while.
And that’s not even taking into account the XL pipeline shutdown.
It’s biden-gas
Prices here were $2.11 gal on inauguration day
Now after multiple energy crippling biden eo’s and foreign policy blumders...it’s $2.75 and climbing

Funny how we never had these blend issues when Trump was president. except the blend made it go down haha. Hope all the Blue states suffer
He’s the one making the joke. Don’t you know how these and then they said memes work???
There is probably a temporary supply gasoline shortage that is affecting the old law of supply and demand. During the great freeze and power debacle in Texas, I saw information on the internet that indicated there were approximately 6-million barrels per day of refining capacity in Texas that was in total shutdown or in partial shutdown. You computer gurus can probably search the internet and find the info I am talking about.
12/31/20 $2.229 per gallon
Today, Same grade, same gas station: $2.699 per gallon.
