Texas is lifting its mask mandate, Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday, making it the largest state to end an order intended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that has killed more than 42,000 Texans.
Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has faced sustained criticism from his party over the statewide mask mandate, which was imposed eight months ago, as well as other restrictions on businesses that Texas will also scuttle next week. The mask order was only ever lightly enforced, even during the worst outbreaks of the pandemic.
The state is removing limits on the number of diners or customers allowed inside businesses, Abbott said during a news conference at a restaurant in Lubbock. He said the new rules would take effect March 10, unleashing a wave of alarm from big city mayors and leaders along the U.S.-Mexico border, where the virus has been especially rampant.
“Removing statewide mandates does not end personal responsibility,” said Abbott, speaking from the crowded dining room where many surrounding him were not wearing masks.
“It’s just that now state mandates are no longer needed,” he said. …

I guess Alaska is not lifting its mandate.
I work in the service industry and if someone walks in without a mask, I don't say anything, although I work with an annoying "Karen" co-worker, who makes people put on masks.
Add Mississippi to the list they are lifting mask mandate tomorrow and allowing businesses to be open 100 percent

Looks like SSDD to me.
Same ****, different despots.
A lady at Walmart tried to hand me a mask.....from her worker cart filled with all kinds of other, various trash/crap, and, I said, No thanks, Karen!
Texas is wide open, for business.
Hallelujah!
I guess Gov Abbott and MS Gov were tired of being proven fools and shown up, by Gov DeSantis.
Glad we’re FINALLY mask free.
Maybe now I can get a damn cart at Walmart.
.
Why did Abbott make the order effective so far in the future (next week?) there’s no reason it could not be effective immediately. He’s such a coward.
Aw heck.
And I was just becoming addicted to my exhaled carbon dioxide.

When I meet a Karen, I thank her for wearing a mask and I remind her that she looks so beautiful with it on and not to remove it.
All of the ugly women of the world are going to be so upset when we do not wear masks anymore.
They could be referring to Texas’s population - which is considerably larger than Alaska’s (and for that matter, every other state except California).

When I meet a non-masked person, I thank them for being so brave and level headed.
Regardless of their attractiveness, or looks.
I happen to think ALL faces look MUCH more beautiful WITHOUT absurd, ineffective masks.
Speaking of faces....I’m surprised Karen hasn’t slapped your face, for commenting about her looks. They tend to not like those types of comments. 🤷♀️
You picked the wrong day/state to stop sniffing your own carbon dioxide 😂
Our Bishop is still quiet - wondering if the fearful folks of our parish will be ok with it.
should of never imposed them to begin with!
Texas should of led the way, but instead followed Florida lead.

Agree....and.....FINALLY followed FLs lead.
Better late than never :-)
And the judge of Tarrant County (where I live) which includes Ft. Worth, is lifting the mask mandate immediately. I had to get off Facebook for a few days, it is exploding about this!
On TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY. No one seems to have noticed.
