Australian Woman Photographs Moth Larger Than Her Hand

An Australian woman recently took to Facebook to share photos of a giant moth she stumbled across in outside of Brisbane.
Pam Taylor posted the first photos of the frighteningly large insect on the Amateur Entomology Australia group, on February 23. The pics showed a huge grey moth clinging to a tree branch. To show just how large the moth really was, the woman also photographed it next to her open palm. Obviously, the photos got a lot of attention from the other amateur entomologists, many of whom recognized the insect as a specimen of Endoxyla Cinereus, or the Giant Wood Moth.

Wolf spiders aren’t much of a problem.
Brown Recluse are.
They look similar.................

Maybe not so large as appears, but if they were really trying to deceive they would have cropped the male hand that is holding the stick. Then the fun could begin with the perspective hijinx.
(How about all those people holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa?)
In any case, porch lights beware. :)

Wolf spiders are dang scary if you have arachnophobia.
Brown spiders are not indigenous to my area.

We have wolf spiders around the yard and I have even been bit once, but it’s not serious, just a itchy, bruised looking spot.
Brown Recluse is deadly.
We also have Black Widows. Beautiful and deadly...............

Out here in the desert we have "hummingbird moths" that hover in midair to sip nectar. Their wingspan is about 3"-4". In Eastern Washington we have something similar but they are only about 1". They really like my honeysuckles.
When I first saw them I thought they were just really tiny hummingbirds. Then I figured it out.
