All I remember was that one of LBJ’s biographers said that Johnson couldn’t understand why he was not universally loved.

He doesn't often get mentioned with Carter and Obama, but I believe LBJ was one of our worst presidents. Greatly increased our commitment in Vietnam with no strategy for victory, micromanaged the war, and on the home front destroyed black families and vastly increased the welfare state which we still live with today.

The difference to me between Carter, Obama, and LBJ was C&O were grossly incompetent and had no business in the Oval Office, while LBJ did lasting damage to the country. His social programs have done little or nothing to eliminate the problems they were supposed to fix (as usual), and they have resulted in horrible consequences for all Americans. The destruction continues to this day.

I don’t know why people are so fixated on Carter and Obama these days. I would make the case that George W. Bush was a worse president than either of them — and by a wide margin, too.
