Cougar Encounter in Utah | Mountain Lion Stalks Me For 6 Minutes!
I found what I thought were bobcats on the trail during a run. Turns out they were cougar cubs and their mother was not happy to see me. She escorted me for over six minutes to get me away from her cubs. Although she was acting very aggressive, the cougar had no intent on hurting me. The mother cougar was most likely caught off guard and did what she had to do to protect her cubs. Mama, cubs, and I are safe.

Saw a video a while back about a guy who was jumped by a big cat while hiking a trail out West. It knocked him to the ground and he said there is no way he could have gotten it off his back by himself.
His dog was the hero. It was ahead of him on the trail and turned back when it heard the ruckus. It tackled the cat and treed it nearby.

I spent many years rock/ice climbing in the mountains.
I saw a bobcat one time in Colorado, after our dog spotted it, never saw a mountain lion.
Once in Wyoming, I was driving and the passengers saw one, that said, I never saw it.
Now I see this, and think oh my, we used to hike in and bring our children! Sometimes a dog but not always.

And by several you mean 3, and by last few years you mean 30. The last recorded fatal attack in California was in 2004.
I live in cat and bear country. Id take a cougar over a bear any day. A bear is as fast as anything in short distance and 300lbs of pissed off bear will trump 130lbs of pissed of cat. I live in the very northern panhandle about 3K elevation and town is 12 miles away.
Never turn your back on ANY PREDITOR!
Even to a bobcat you can look like lunch.
I have always told my son, “In the forest only FOOD runs away”.
That should have been PREDATORS, gettin old, brain don’t work as well as it used to.
