I’m not racist, but black parents, why do you saddle your kids with crazy names. Why not give your kids American names like Ken, Don, Mary and Ellen, instead of LaTravon, JaCarter, Liquindella?

It’s not just a black thing. It’s a cultural pride or identity thing. I have friends who are second-generation Italian-Americans. Most of them have traditional Italian first names. But they have “English” nicknames.

I’m of Hungarian descent. My siblings and I have “English” first names. But our parents called us by Hungarian nicknames when we were growing up. And trust me, those nicknames were as unusual-sounding as some of the black names of today.

Anyway, all of this is not a good thing. It hinders the melting pot.

Those are "white" names. This movement started in the late 60s early 70s to start using "African" sounding names.

Funniest one I remember was Tercel.....as in the Toyota Tercel.
