Look, he should just know better than to keep this alive. Attacking people is not the way to put it to sleep. He’s a public figure, naturally people are going to know what he’s doing. And he has a lot of enemies, as he well knows, so he has to expect that they will use anything to get at him.

One of the reasons he’s never been the presidential candidate is because he has a tin ear, no idea of how to handle publicity things, and a self-righteous streak a mile wide.

What he did was wrong...and stupid. He should just have apologized and gotten on with life. Instead he’s keeping his error front and center.
