I love and respect Rush but it's time to get back to talk radio---

That’s another thing I was thinking. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Rush had specific directions for continuing the show over his preferences for his own funeral.

Liberal heads explode every day that Rush is remembered. He has provided 33 years of material that can be rewoven to apply for today and today’s news.

Yup. But they are not doing that. The first hour today was devoted to Rush's children's books. Not very newsworthy or timely. And they did it the first hour because of course that's when the most listeners will be tuned in.

I don't think Ken Matthews, who I like very much, was worth bringing on to do a "tribute show". If he spoke for more than a total of 15 or 20 minutes I'd be surprised.

I liked Rush not only for his entertainment but for his astute political analysis. He was a genius at that.

What they are doing now is not that. What they should be doing, in my humble opinion, is to do commentary and analysis of current events and THEN weave Rush's comments from the past into that.

What they are doing now is boring.

I liked James Golden when he had a radio show years ago. Well spoken and intelligent.

The “Limbaugh Legacy” programming will continue until Rush’s sponsors pull out and the ratings sink. The way EIB is doing the shows, with the guest hosts segueing into generous clips of Rush being Rush, is pretty effective.

Part of the problem is keeping the EIB network intact. Many of the biggest stations that carry the Rush show are owned by Cumulus. Rush’s syndicator is Premiere Radio Networks, which is owned by Cumulus’s biggest national competitor, I Heart Radio (formerly Clear Channel). My guess is that Cumulus terminates its relationship with EIB and puts one of its own personalities in the 12-3 slot Cumulus owns radio syndicator Westwood One, which syndicates Chris Plante, Mark Levin, Red Eye Radio (Eric Harley & Gerry McNamara), Ben Shapiro, Jim Bohannon, Michael Knowles; Cumulus also owns The John Batchelor Show as well as Mancow Mueller in Chicago.

I’ve thought they would move Chris Plante into the 12-3 slot and then put someone like Michael Knowles into the 9-12 slot. Cumulus actually has a pretty deep bench of decent local talkers, so they could easily cut the cord with EIB and suffer no financial loss.

That Cumulus would make such a move is not unprecedented, as they gave Sean Hannity the boot a few years ago (Hannity is another Premiere property, and Hannity absolutely infuriated the Dickey brothers, who run Cumulus, but continuing to pimp all his non-radio show activities).

Also, EIB affiliates such as the ones Cumulus owns have to pay a monthly fee to Premiere to run the Rush show, in addition to having to give up much of their hourly commercial spot inventory to Premiere. Cumulus would regain these hours and be able to sell all the commercial spots for its own account.

I think that however this turns out, one of the big radio operators needs to take a look at Andrew Wilkow, who has competed against Rush for years in the 12-3 slot on Sirius/XM. I’m not sure how long Wilkow is committed to Sirius/XM, but he is outstanding. If they put him together with the incredible staff Rush had at the EIB network, they could have their man. “We are right; they are wrong; the arguments made on this program cannot be broken”.

*****No intention toward you personally. The comment, however, is similar to the cancel culture******

Some of you guys are like freaking lefty idiots at times and any opinion that’s “outside of the box” is considered being a traitor. I simply asked about the format and is anyone else finding it a “turn off”. You want to listen to Rush from 2005 or whatever, have at it but it’s not helping the cause to convince others of conservative values. People are flat out concerned what’s going on in our society from these Marxist pricks in charge and they want to listen to what’s going on NOW. Period!

Hey, but go one and lose 3 precious months in a world where literally things are changing by the minute. Also, let me know when you’re sent death threats, daily threats, bank account compromised and attacked at any moment by these radicals-—How you’ll feel when the masses are listening to 2005 Rush instead. I have personally had these people attack me and my family because WE stood up to them instead of posting crap from your basement acting like you’re high and mighty. Let me know when you’re ready to challenge the enemy instead of accusing people like me of being “cancel culture” because of a remark.

I agree with your sentiments and turn the show off lately with all the BEST OF broadcasts.
I’ve heard everything that is being broadcasted and seek out new information and breaking news.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. As we all are. Referring to FReepers as "freaking lefty idiots" is jumping the shark when you have personally quoted cancel culture ideals in this thread.

Some of us are wise enough to know that much of what is occurring today has previously happened. We learn from the past and hone our skills for dealing with the present.

Expecting someone to fill Rush Limbaugh's shoes in any radio time slot is pretty much a fool's errand in the near future. Rush was the master of his craft. There is no simple magic bullet to create a new commander of the radio waves.

Rather than making enemies of fellow conservatives through insults, we might consider using the tools we have learned, and forging coalitions. Strength in numbers.

“personally quoted cancel culture ideals in this thread.”

Such as?

Now to answer your concern, I don’t expect to fill Rush’s spot but to simply continue with “fill ins” in the short term. There’s plenty of good show hosts that would gladly fill in every few days and 10 minutes every hour could be a segment of “Rush’s gems”.

This is the kind of discussion I was expecting——to get ideas, kick around what could be changed moving forward with picking up the void of Rush’s passing.

I apologize for getting angry-—it was wrong and as like everyone else, we’re on edge due to everything going on.
