Yes. That was 200 years ago. Personalities were different, but more importantly:

1. The House had far fewer members.

2. The President had less power and there was no massive executive branch bureaucracy like we have now.

John Quincy Adams did serve in the House, fought against slavery and died in the House. I don’t think he his service there as somehow demeaning.
