An American Airlines passenger jet traveling from Cincinnati to Phoenix encountered an apparent UFO over northeastern New Mexico Sunday afternoon.
The pilot on flight 2292 radioed around 1:00 p.m. CST and said that the unidentified object was flying right on top of them, according to a transmission recorded by Steve Douglass on his blog, Deep Black Horizon. American Airlines verified to Fox News that the transmission is from flight 2292.
"Do you have any targets up here? We just had something go right over the top of us," the pilot said in the radio transmission.
"I hate to say this but it looked like a long cylindrical object that almost looked like a cruise missile type of thing moving really fast. It went right over the top of us."
American Airlines confirmed that the radio transmission is authentic, but did not give any further comment on the possible alien encounter.
"Following a debrief with our Flight Crew and additional information received, we can confirm this radio transmission was from American Airlines Flight 2292 on Feb. 21," an American Airlines spokesperson told Fox News in a statement. "For any additional questions on this, we encourage you to reach out to the FBI."
The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
Flight 2292 was around 37,000 feet at the time of the sighting, and Albuquerque Center did not respond because local air traffic interfered, according to Douglass. The flight went on to land in Phoenix, Arizona.

The aircraft would have to have an encoding transponder. I’d guess that the UFO was simply a target drone.
That alien sure was nice to press “post” on your unfinished message!
Sure, the U.S. Air Force shoots missiles a few hundred feet over passenger aircraft transiting mid-America. Perfectly routine.
I agree. Unless it was turned over to Mulder, something like this wouldn't go to the FBI unless it was thought to be a possible attack. Missile would be my guess based on the description.
I believe it! It was probably flown by a BigFoot.
Helm, new name for it!
Lol It sounds classy when speaking in polite society.
Aaahhhh, atsa good one, boss!
As a retired Delta pilot I can tell you that these sightings are not as rare as most folks believe!
I had a number of them myself.
A majority of the sightings came over open waters.

What were they—the craft you saw?

TWA 800 … a total cover-up, no question.
No idea and I remember where one didn’t show on the ACAS.

Thx for your comments BTW.:-)
For reasons not clear to me, you can’t seem to get a clean(?) observation of whatever these objects are.
It’s like looking at a fuzzy image of something.
Something like a compact vehicle through an unfocused camera lens.
My vision tended to blur when I would look up from my instrument panel to where the object was.
This was not just my experience, it was a similar experience to other pilots that encountered these things.
I don’t know, I’m no expert but I do wonder if that is the reason no one has ever taken a clear picture of a ufo?
“Roadrunner”?
Whatever these things are, they appear to be quite sneaky.
People who have studied abduction cases, like Dr John Mack (Harvard psychiatrist, now deceased), have concluded that the same characteristic is present in those experience.
There is ample evidence of "something"...but, whatever it is, it is effective at keeping itself hidden behind a curtain of blurriness and deceit.
