The days of indoor movie theaters are coming to an end. It is just a matter of time.

Actually, movie industry people have been thinking about this for a while - totally unrelated to the pandemic. Notice what films gross the most? Usually action films based on comic books with lots of special effects. With so many ways to get a movie delivered to your inexpensive screen at home the days of theaters were already coming to an end. One idea floated by the big names like Spielberg is to create more spectacle around individual films - not just on the screen but the entire experience - to give them more longevity in the theaters.

“days of indoor movie theaters are coming to an end”

I’ve got a million dollar idea. Outdoor movies that you just sit in your car, watch a giant screen and the audio plays over your radio...IM GONNA BE RICH!!!

😂

Not sure movie theatres will be ending, there is still something special about the “Big Screen” experience that is not the same as watching on your home TV, and as far as cost it is still relatively cheap entertainment at $13

In my state, while permitted to open, most if not all theaters are closed. Originally they said they planned to re-open in spring but most have quietly changed to “later this year.”

The lack of films AND restrictions like 50% OR 25 people which ever is greater per theater AND no concessions forced their hands. The left (useful idiots all the way up to Gov) were shocked that when they limited, say a 12 screen multiplex to just 100 people in the building, staff included they would loose more money with utilities, payroll, supplies, etc. trying to open vs. lay off all but the manager and “winterize” the building.
