"Since I Don't Have You" is a song written and composed by Jackie Taylor, James Beaumont, Janet Vogel, Joseph Rock, Joe Verscharen, Lennie Martin, and Wally Lester. It was first a 1958 hit single for the doo-wop group the Skyliners. Don McLean's 1981 rendition, reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was also an Adult Contemporary hit, reaching number six in the U.S.

It sure doesn’t sound like a 1981 update. Sounds pretty much like the original, just a little more acoustic guitar and lower volume piano. Better studio, different singer.

Nice version.
Wow. I never heard that version before. Impressive. McLean has a great vocal range.
He was a true artist... I remember when he was asked about the meaning of American Pie... His answer: “I’ll never have to work again.”
Don Maclean was a fan of Buddy Holly and his hit song, American Pie was essentially a lament at the death of the era of Holly’s music.
Maclean also loved the songs of the 1950’s and did a whole album of songs from that era.
Janet Vogels soaring melody at the end of the Skyliners version is just lovely. Clean sound...no bluesy inflection...hits the notes clean, smooth, and way up there.
McLeans version pretty good also. If he had background harmonies and a soprano voice adding music...it would very good. I do love that song.
