Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport to be renamed after ex-Nevada Sen. Harry Reid

LAS VEGAS – A county board voted unanimously Tuesday to rename busy McCarran International Airport after former U.S. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada.

The all-Democratic Clark County Commission approved a measure directing the county’s airport staff to file a change with the Federal Aviation Administration renaming the facility Harry Reid International Airport.

The county commission oversees the airport and is the final authority on a name change.

There have been long-standing calls to rename the airport. Its current namesake, Patrick McCarran, served as one of Nevada’s two U.S. senators from 1933 until his death in 1954. He was known for his contributions to aviation along with his anti-immigrant and anti-Semitic views.

Reid, a Democrat and the former Senate majority leader, retired in 2016 after serving 30 years. The proposal was put forward by Commissioner Tick Segerblom, a former chair of the state Democratic Party who announced last week he is again running for the chairmanship.

Forgot to mention “Senator Geary” when speaking of mobbed up politicians. The Mob absolutely *owned* Vegas in the 70’s and 80’s...which was the very period during which Dirty Harry was the Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission.

Given that McCarron was an anti-communist, I would seek truthful sources on this man’s history rather than rely on the left who brand him as an anti-Semite and against immigration.

That is how they attack those who disagree with them. The man may indeed be an anti-SemiteFor all I know, but I sure as hell am not going to take their word for it. I would research it on my own.

By the way, I think he was most famous for what was known as the McCarran Rider, Which is legislation that required communist organizations to list their affiliations and membership.

Given what we know now about communist infiltration of the US government institutions through the 30s, 40s, and early 50s, we damn well should’ve been doing that.

I see this as another effort by the left to erase history. That’s all.

Yep. Most people posting just accept that McCarron was a racist and anti-Semite.

He might well be. But I am going to find out on my own, not take their stinking lying word for it.

I want to fly out of the Janet Jet terminal and see where I land. I am fascinated by that airline.

He does? That’s sad. Maybe the gold-plated Senate healthcare plan he has OUTSIDE of BammyKare will save his decrepit, crooked ass.

One can only hope Dingy Harry survives long enough to christen the runway.

A minor county’s commission should NOT have the power to force the WORLD to spend who knows how much money to implement the name change...and especially not to honor such a stinking pile of fecal matter as Harry Reid.

Why not Wayne Newton?

Bless your heart. Or Howard Hughes, long-time resident and aviation pioneer? No, no - I got it:

Benjamin Siegel International. Historically relevant AND had the credentials for a top Democrat.
