'Shooters want money': Baltimore convict-turned-activist says city should PAY killers not to kill to lower city's murder rate

Tyree Moorehead spent 18 years in prison for second degree murder which he committed when he was 15

A Baltimore convict and community activist has come up with what he says is solution to the city's soaring murder rate - paying killers not to shoot people.

Tyree Moorehead spent 18 years in prison for second degree murder which he committed when he was 15.

He was released from prison in 2012 and has since devoted his time to trying to work with criminals in Baltimore to reduce crime rates.

He told FOX 45 this week that he believes the way to lower the city's soaring shooting numbers is to pay criminals not to kill people.

'I can relate to the shooters, guess what they want? They want money.

'I've talked to these people, I've seen the shooters, it’s a small city, I know who the hustlers are,' he said.

He didn't give any more details as to how such a system would work.

Baltimore had the second highest murder rate in the US in 2018 and 2019 after St Louis.

New Orleans and Baton Rouge in Louisiana were second and fourth.

Chicago's gun violence problem is prolific but its number of murders there per capita has never put it in top five for deadliest cities in the US.

...snip...

In 2016, officials in Richmond, California, tested a program where they paid young offenders for staying out of trouble.

As part of that program, convicts or troubled youths could earn up to $1,000 if they completed a series of goals over a certain amount of time.

Community 'peacekeepers' - ex-cons - were used to enforce it and it lowered the city's murder rate to the lowest it had been for 30 years.

Well, that does it. I won’t give up until I find someone who will pay me for not robbing banks.

How about if a group shoots those paid not to shoot for half as much as they pay those not to shoot??

It returns a lot to the city as those paid not to shoot are soon gone and no longer need to be paid.

That sounds just a little bit like extortion.

A straight-up shakedown. It would be a pity if people were to get shot and murdered in your city. Pay us so that won't happen.

Baltimore is doomed. It's too far gone to recover from its death spiral.

True - but a lot of stolen guns aren't worth crap - so criminals turned them in to liberal 'gun buy-back programs' - then took the money and bought better quality guns on the black market.

Sometimes it's hard to figure out if the people behind this type of "STUPID" are loopy white liberal 'elites' OR the criminal class that props them up...

Best thing to do is have some old worthless guns like Sears JC Higgins .22’s or the like; let them steal those. Then too, should the fed’s come for your guns, give them those as well.
