A man from Sugarloaf Township charged with fleeing the scene after striking a construction worker who died on Interstate-81 waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday.
Zachary Gerbino, 27, appeared before District Judge James M. Dixon where he waived charges of accidents involving death and tampering or fabricating evidence to Luzerne County Court. Gerbino remains free on $25,000 bail.
State police at Hazleton allege Gerbino was traveling north in a 2005 Hyundai Accent on I-81 when he struck Kevin DenDulk, 30, of Royersford, Montgomery County, at about 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 1.
DunDulk was part of a construction crew when he was struck by the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police allege Gerbino fled the scene in his vehicle that was damaged in the accident.

So the Sugarloaf man said: “Don’t call us, we’ll call you?”
Roger that. :P
PING!
He was too busy watching the Green Eyed Lady.
Just wait until one or both parties decide to sue the pub.
Now I’m going to have that Sugarloaf riff stuck in my head the rest of the day.
ISWYDT................
I met the writer of that song......................
I’ve often wondered why road construction workers aren’t better protected. Usually there’s nothing but a few traffic cones between them and oncoming cars.
What could be used instead? Maybe a heavy - but movable - barrier of some type would work. But if a car hit it, the barrier could itself become a missile. Anybody have any ideas in this?
Nice. :)
Sugarloaf, the ultimate “Two-Hit Wonder”
Accidents happen no matter how many precautions are taken......
Three or four years ago A friend and his wife were slowed down to about 15 MPH in a work zone when they were rear ended by a pickup truck doing freeway speed and never saw the work signs or the stopped traffic ahead of him. While my friend survived, his wife was killed instantly......
He told us that the song is actually a retelling of a real-life event for their band, when they were trying to get a contract.
And the telephone number you hear in the dialing part is actually the White House phone number being dialed!...............
“Royersford, Montgomery County”
Should be “Royersford, Montgomery County, PA.”
But these lazy journalist’s can’t do their jobs.
My sympathies. Your post gave me an idea. Why not put portable speed bumps across the road ahead of the workers? Put one maybe 30 feet after the first “Reduce speed” sign. Put another one further down the line. That would hopefully alert distracted drivers. Whadda'ya think?
Oh, and I looked it up. Portable speed bumps do exist.
Green-eyed lady.. Love the drums in that song...
They do but not all vehicles have the clearance necessary to absorb them.
A friend has a Harley 3 wheeler and he tore out his exhaust system on a typical parking lot speed bump that he thought he could clear.......
Some freeways have ridges on the shoulder that sound like brrrrrrp, brrrrrrp, brrrrrrp when you run over them. Something portable like that could work but then again, not even stop lights or signs at intersections prevent accidents.......
