Texas energy nightmare

Posted on 02/17/2021 5:31:53 AM PST by uscga77

Nobody listens especially politicians until the lights (and heat!) go out. Texas voters will remember how our state officials 'managed' this energy crisis and set us up for failure with a foolish reliance on wind and solar that is not advanced enough to keep us warm. For some rolling blackouts are a big misnomer that have people freezing for many hours if not days. Pray and be good neighbors, especially to the elderly and those with little children.

Maybe I’ll have time to waste with you later.

Somehow I doubt it.

You cant. You can store natural gas in earth caverns. You can winterize plants and gas delivery. I mean come on. You just have to spend the money to do it.

Thanks for that; will look into it. Been looking at Mr Heater / My Buddy line, and just placed an order. Buying at the wrong time of year, but it’ll work ><

-You can store natural gas in earth caverns.-

Where is this done? Does Texas have a lot of unused earth caverns?

The local (Champaign County, Illinois) underground natural gas storage facility (for heating Chicago) is in “porous” rock underneath an impervious rock dome - not near the earth’s surface. The gas is injected using wells under very high pressure. The wells are also used for gas retrieval. The “porous” rock looks like rock -it is difficult to imagine that it is porous. They use the stored gas only when the pipeline from Texas and now other sources cannot supply the demand.

A few years ago we had some excitement (explosion, fire, etc) when a near surface high pressure gas distribution line failed. If my memory serves me correctly, the post mortem determined the failure was due to an internal scratch in the failed pipe.

We are good, PTL!

Thanks for checking.

Power came back on after 10 hours out. Generator worked like a champ.

Water and power kept on keeping on. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Stores are out of so many foods, but we just had ribeye and roasted potatoes.....from our supplies.

Kids took home some eggs and bacon. 😬

Yep.

We insulated outdoor/exposed pipes and left water dripping, and cab doors open, inside.

What a concept, eh?

I am always staggered by the ignorance of people during winter weather events like this.

You did the right thing, but many would not, just like the folks who, when they lose power in the winter, try to get the power company to pay for all the food they lost when the fridge stopped working, instead of simply putting it in coolers outside.

Too many people used to having their hands held and can’t think for themselves.
