the Mets will indeed probably win the east. but they aren’t in the same solar system as the dodgers. bauer is a two year deal; even if he sucks (and he won’t), he’ll only suck for 2 years. his WAR in 2020 was 2.7 — that alone puts him among the elite. the Mets could have used the pitching.

andrew freidman doesn’t mind over paying for players as much as he hates long term deals — the betts deal notwithstanding.

Betts is a guy we missed on thanks to the frugality of our previous owner (ugh). Our new hedge fund $billionaire is better positioned to make us contenders via free agents. Whatever, baseball is my summer pastime x more years than I care to mention, and given our current times, recreation is a welcomed respite.
