VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Valparaiso University announced Thursday that it is dropping the team name Crusaders, the school mascot and all logos associated with the term that it said has been embraced by hate groups.
The decision comes after a decadeslong debate that had intensified recently because groups such as the Ku Klux Klan began using the symbols and words. The school's faculty and student senates each passed resolutions calling for the change and the university's alumni board of directors supported reassessing the appropriateness of the team name.
The Crusades were a series of bloody religious wars starting in the 11th century between Christians and Muslims. For years, Valpo's mascot has been a helmeted figure in faux armor.

I truly despise a decent percentage of our country.
Susquehanna University Crusaders became the River Hawks last year...
Holy Cross is still the Crusaders at last check.

To show honor to the other side it should be Valpairaso Infidels.
Seems to fit
The Powder Puffs.
The crusades were justified by centuries of unprovoked Islamic warmongering that was still ongoing.
What’s next? Apologizing to Germany for defeating the Nazis?
Hi.
Well, there were Muslim “crusaders” too. Right? You know the sultans names and the califate. Rigbt? They are called “jihadis.”
Are we now on the same “hate” page?
No?

Pushback from centuries of moslem aggression.
Very sad, but their religious content has probably already gone to secularism.

To be replaced by what? Saracens? Janissaries? Jihadists?
“The Crusader” has been the name of the Klan’s newspaper for decades. Valpo is just finding this out now? Do the dorm rooms have white bedsheets? That could be a problem too.
“You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade...”
Yes.
I wrote the same FR comment that year, too.
Yeah, they decided they'd go with "Inquisitors" as a better description of their Alma Matter.
