American jazz pioneer, composer, keyboardist and bandleader Chick Corea passed away on Tuesday, according to a post on his Facebook page. He was 79 years old. The Facebook statement says Corea died from “a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently.”
Corea was the fourth-most-nominated artist in the history of the Grammys, with 65 nominations, winning 23 times. He also earned 3 Latin Grammy Awards, the most of any artist in the Best Instrumental Album category.

We were mainly doing Gershwin during my time.
One of Spirit's more famous pieces was 'Nutville', by Horace Silver.

LOL, I had one of my buddies over last night, and he REALLY doesn’t like the current iteration.
Someone told me the other day, they don’t even have drum solos any more.
LOL, I am sure some non-drummers may rejoice, but...being part drummer myself, I think that is a shame.

The snare-bass roll, I’ve never heard anyone else do that.

Chick made Al stick around and practice after shows so he could meet the standard of the band. After they recorded Romantic Warrior and finished the tour to support it he fired him and Lenny White.

Meanwhile obligatory...
