A salesman telling lies is attempted robbery. A government telling lies is armed robbery.
Emissions are proportional to price. If something is expensive there is much energy consumption and pollution production going on somewhere. To find out where, just follow the money.
For nuclear power, the emissions mostly take place in the construction and decommissioning phases (assuming no catastrophic failure phase), however the production phase also produces massive greenhouse gas emissions in the form of water vapor.
Nuclear power has proven to be expensive and dangerous. "New and improved" is a tough sell. It has its niche uses, but attempting to use it to power an economy is foolish.
Can they be made small enough to fit in a car?🤔
In the early 70’s I gave comprehensive presentations about all manner of power production.
One of the more ‘interesting’ comments I fielded from an audience - in FAR west Oregon - had to do with the commenter worrying about the radiation that would get into the house through the electrical outlets.
I countered with: “there’s a large garbage-to-electricity plant a few miles from here. Are you also worried about your house filling up with garbage???”
I kept a close eye on my rear-view mirror all the way back to ‘civilization!
I see what you did there!!!
They started decommissioning TMI 2, the undamaged reactor at 3 mike island in December of last year. This means that it has been supplying power for the past 40 years.
Computer simulations stated this MIGHT be operational in 10 years in 2010...
Anyone that has read this far into this thread knows:
“Fusion is only 30 years away”.
~Abraham Lincoln
Unfortunately, it has not always been funded as needed.
And with the implementation of ‘the brown bag test’ for all new hires; progress has slowed.
“had to do with the commenter worrying about the radiation that would get into the house through the electrical outlets.”
I’ve known people that thought electricity would leak from the outlets if they weren’t covered.
” Dumps sugar in your reactor?”
OH crap!
Not the old sugar in the reactor tank trick?
Unfortunately, we will need locking caps on everything!
Potatoes, or watermelons (?) in the pressure relief vents?
Aspirins in the battery?
What voltage is required for a “Whistling Jimmy”?

A never-ending battle...
They actually exist!!!
In my rock climbing days, I climbed with a guy that did government work in the mountains overlooking China.
Placing sensors, transmitter, and a power supply.
The Sherpa's loved the power supply because it stayed warm, and slept with it!
A minor downside, I believe this device used plutonium, not good?
Might need one or two for each circuit in your house.
It has now been 8 years and no end in sight...
And yet the French have been successful using Westinghouse PWRs!
In France, unlike in America, nuclear energy is accepted, even popular. Everybody I spoke to in Civaux loves the fact their region was chosen. The nuclear plant has brought jobs and prosperity to the area. Nobody I spoke to, nobody, expressed any fear. From the village school teacher, Rene Barc, to the patron of the Cafe de Sport bar, Valerie Turbeau, any traces of doubt they might have had have faded as they have come to know plant workers, visited the reactor site and thought about the benefits of being part of France’s nuclear energy effort.

“Nuclear power has proven to be expensive and dangerous. “New and improved” is a tough sell. It has its niche uses, but attempting to use it to power an economy is foolish.”
And yet, the French have been very successful with US-designed PWRs?
Why is that?
Can they be made small enough to fit in a car?
Easy peasy!
It might out weight a full loaded cement truck.
But the MPGe would be fantastic!!!
And until today the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_in_the_United_States article had zero under Pro nuclear power stance. Plenty negative though. No certainty what is under the pro section will stay.
Lol...I mean you’re not wrong on that last point
That is exactly the key!
“Nuclear is accepted”
Which is it not in the US, nor just over the border from France in Germany.
