What a headline! The way it is written it looks like 9,140 are missing. They should probably make sure their editors have at least a sixth grade education.

You did not know that the Himalayas are located in part in the northern most regions of India and is home to many glaciers?

A large number of the missing were workers at the 13.2 MW Rishiganga Hydroelectric Project which was destroyed by the bursting of the glacier.

I knew about the Himalayas but never considered glaciers.

Well you learn something new every day.

… That is not something I ever knew.

Summer monsoons dump lots of precipitation on Southern slopes of Himalayans. At higher altitudes, it’s all snow.

Video title is “150 feared dead as glacier crashed into dam.”

The world’s fastest glacier, Jakobshavn Isbrae in Greenland, moves up to 40 meters per day. Does 0.001035619 mph really qualify as “crashing”?

From the article excerpt, it sounds like part of the glacier broke off (calved) and slid or fell into the lake, creating a wave that took out the dam. (Lots of great vids of calving events are on You Tube.)

BTW, “All”, Mt. Etna popped it’s cork a few days ago, too. Did that get posted on FR?

Sounds like it was a glacial lake outburst flood (aka GLOF or jökulhlaup) that was released when a piece of ice broke off the glacier.

Ah, that old gloBULL warming will get you every time.

We should immediately shut down and park our cars and trucks that gobble gallons of fossil fuels.

And you folks that drive electric cars and trucks, wipe that smile off your face and quit feeling so holy. Where do you think the electricity to charge your vehicle comes from? Fossil fuels, that’s where.
