Thing is, we all knew the drill.
We didn’t do it because it was protocol.
We did it because it was the flag of the United States.

I belong to the local Marine Corps League. Our official uniform is a Red Cover...we couldn’t salute the flag. Neither could veterans.
Most looked the other way when it was done. That finally got changed in 2008.
