Our good ol’ Tucker (mixed breed rescue) turned 14 yesterday.

We’ve been feeding him chicken and rice. We buy the cheapest chicken (leg quarters are about 69 cents a pound) and cook some rice every few days.

He’s been eating this for months. He’s an old dog, but he feels good and is fairly active. Hips are sort of shot, but he gets around OK.

My greyhound ate a whole raw chicken once, bones and all. I turned away for a second and it was gone. Then I saw her in the backyard wolfing it down with gusto. She also takes birds on the wing and disappears them.

We feed the ground beef and rice bland diet when they’re recovering from illness or injury, but they would happily eat it every day...

I add glucosamine/chondritin/MSM supplement for the older dogs and drastically improved their quality of life.
