Sen. Joe Manchin Says No To $15 Minimum Wage, Possibly Killing Push In Congress ($11 may be okay)
Huffington Post ^ | 2/02/20 | Tara Golshan, Dave Jamieson

Posted on 02/02/2021 4:01:40 PM PST by Libloather

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said he does not support raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, throwing a major wrench in Democrats’ already fraught hopes of giving workers a major pay raise.

Manchin, who is among the most moderate of the Senate Democratic Caucus, did, however, open the door to a more narrow increase in the minimum wage from its current $7.25.

“I’m supportive of an increase that’s responsible and reasonable, and in my state that’s $11,” Manchin told congressional reporters, adding that the rate should account for inflation.

Manchin is bucking his own party’s leadership. House Democrats have already passed the Raise the Wage Act, which would phase in a $15 minimum wage over several years. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) is behind the proposal — as is President Joe Biden.

“No one in America should work 40 hours a week making below the poverty line — $15 gets people above the poverty line,” Biden said in late January. The White House’s proposal for COVID-19 relief backs a $15 minimum wage, and Biden issued an executive order last week that took the first step toward increasing the minimum wage for federal workers and contractors to $15 an hour.

**SNIP**

Manchin’s balk at $15 shows just how much of an uphill climb Democrats face on their minimum wage plan. Although $15 is now formally a piece of the party platform, several Democratic senators still have not endorsed the number. So far, only 37 have co-sponsored the minimum wage bill reintroduced in the Senate last week, while a handful facing reelection in 2022 have kept their names off the legislation.

Every state has different cost of living.

Here in permanently blue socialist NJ, we just had a "incremental" increase to the magical $15. Fidiots were shocked how EVERYTHING in cost shot up overnight.

As long as we are importing foreign scum to take American jobs, there needs to be a minimum wage for Americans.

No, arsenic poisoning is not cured with cyanide poisoning. The real minimum wage will alwys be zero, and the higher the fake "mimimum wage" the more Americans will get the real one. (Yes, work visas need to be drastically curtailed if not eliminated outright.)

I don’t disagree with strong immigration control. As far as I’m concerned raids on production facilities should ocurre on a regular basis. Those employing illegals which are employed without visa’s should be fined greatly and illegals deported.

But lets allow manufacturers to be competitive in order to survive.

Take your pro-Walmart, pro-H1B garbage elsewhere.

Walmart has replaced nearly 10,000 Americans with your filthy dirty disgusting H1B Indians in Bentonville and other locations in the US.

The USCIS doesn’t lie.

Flipkart is not in the US. I’m talking about American workers.

How does it feel to be a traitor to the American worker?

Oh, wait, you make money off the misery of underemployed and unemployed Americans replaced by these Indian scumbags.

Rather than suppressing American wages with foreign labor, legal or illegal, let's slash anticompetitive regulation and deploy tariffs where appropriate.

Those employing H1B Indian and Communist Chinese scumbags should be treated as foreign companies and tariffed to hell.

These companies should also be solely funding unemployment for Americans. A $200,000 tax levy per foreign H1B scumbag brought into the country should end this anti-American practice.

In agreement. But lets allow the free market to survive in the process of survival.

“Er, firing anyone who can’t produce more than $15/hr value.”

What percentage of new high school graduates from our public education system are worth $15 per hour?

No clue how to govern. What the heck is the agenda? Impeach Trump and...? The country is ripe for an overthrow. Completely divided and no shared values among its leadership

But lets allow the free market to survive in the process of survival.

Survival of this nation requires a stable middle class, which requires we not let it be gutted with wage suppression in the name of "free trade."

There has never been a true free market in history.

The US is even in the top ten for economic freedom.

Wow.

So wrong. But I don’t care as I know the truth and would not hold a stock that endorses H1B before American first.

Regardless of what I have said, you continue with your false narrative.

That’s ok. Because people know the truth.

That was the foundation of America First. Which is why Mitch threw DJT under the bus, and threw Biden a lifeline.

I’m in full agreement of ridding this country of crony corporatists, while at the same time preserving the free market.

D.C. wants complete control of business in order to destroy Capitalism and empower marxism. (Cloward and piven) and this virus strategy puts it on the fast tract to completion. Business ownership and survival is on the endangered species list

Manchin is pretwnding to be a friend to WV but he will shaft us the minute he gets re-elected. We must vote this fake out.

That gives Joe enough time to save the Republic, and earn my undying gratitude.

He is up for election in 2024.

He and Kyrsten Sinema, (D) Arizona are the current slim reeds on which the fate of the Republic stands.

So far, they can stop:

Packing the Supreme Court

Adding additional states

The insane takeover of National elections by the Democrats (all mail out ballots with *no* eligibility requirements or vetting).

If they do that, we *all* owe them a great deal.

These American companies bringing in cheap foreign labor from India and Mexico should solely fund all displaced worker assistance programs and minimum wage.

There was once a program that the US (part of a Trade Adjustment Allowance grant program for displaced workers, originally part of NAFTA) had for workers displaced by Indian scumbags.

Microsoft is 300-0 in Washington State in arguing against Americans terminated and replaced by foreign workers, as they would be responsible paying for this displaced worker retraining)

They argue that Americans could change fields readily and go into other jobs that are always available. (A former Microsoft employee can go from being a $125,000/yr software engineer to a $25,000/ year grocery store worker, and that counts as gainful employment and ineligibility for the program.

“Between 2007 and 2014, IT contractors have filed almost 15,000 petitions (certified LCAs) for H1B visas for work placed in Bentonville, Arkansas, home to Walmart’s headquarters and information technology center. Walmart is a known client of these controversial outsourcing contractors, including Infosys, Cognizant and Wipro.” - https://aflcio.org/sites/default/files/2017-03/Walmart%2Band%2BTech%2BIndustry_4115Final.pdf

India, Mexico and Communist China, supported by the Uniparty and many here on FR, has absolutely gutted and destroyed the American middle class.

“No one in America should work 40 hours a week making below the poverty line...”

He’s never worked in the Agricultural industry where there is no minimum wage. In 1962 I was picking green beans for a penny a pound. One day, Only one, I actually made $5.00!

Then the weather turned dry and I never made over $2.80 a day even though I picked the same amount of beans.

Keep supporting India, you anti-American traitorous piece of garbage.

I can post hundreds of articles about Walmart replacing American jobs with your beloved Indian scumbags.

That doesn’t fit your narrative as you are all for effing over the American worker.

You are no better than the fake news media.

So the 10k plus Indian H1B applications and LCAs lodged at the USCIS by Walmart are lies?

Keep believing your corporate nonsense. Keep being a traitor the American worker.

Walmart: Made in China, hires Indians.
