Before I retired, I used to see a woman on the elevator at work every once in a while who was probably about 6'2. I was an office employee for the Seattle Public Utility (water/sewer/garbage), and she worked in the field. She had a very nice figure and kind of a girl-next-door face - attractive, but not a head-turner.

She reminded me of a line from a song by The Doors, called "Build Me a Woman" - "Build me a woman, don't make her small, build me a woman, make her eight feet tall."

I’m 6’-8” and I had zero confidence around women when I was younger. I think it’s just a guy thing we try to be perfect gentlemen when we should be more assertive instead of worrying about being a jerk.

I would not date a man. Period. Not my type. I only date genuine women.

I’ve been noticing lately that almost all of the leading male actors on Netflix and Amazon Prime films and series are shorter than the leading women.

It has to be some kind of lame “equality” statement - but if the hope is to promote the idea that women are more powerful than men, I believe it backfires, for two reasons:

1) Height and physical strength are not the true measures of power.
2) Everyone knows that in real life the average man is significantly taller and physically stronger than the average woman. So the conspicuous practice of casting tall women with short men comes off as a transparent ploy - to the point of being an annoying distraction.

It’s in the DNA. Most women will want taller men, no matter how tall they themselves are.

I think the article is asking “would you date a man shorter than you are”
My husband is 5’ 8” and no problems being with him for 44 years.

Question: Why do (if they do) tall women with same or shorter men wear high heels?

Yep. Jeff Bezos is 5’7”. Guys have to be either elite in one category (money/job, looks, etc.) or be well rounded in all categories. The average guy can upgrade himself but it takes a lot of work. That’s just what females are genetically programmed to be attracted too.

I always try to remember that as far as ladies go for a guy it better to be fat and 50 than boring.

How much money does he have? That could be the deciding factor.

True.

Taking money out of the equation, if short men get shorter women, and tall men get shorter women, what do tall women get?.... Cats

Tall women who insist on even taller men are dooming their daughters to a lifetime of searching for something that'll only get harder to find.

Well, good for her, whatever floats your boat. Who knows, soon the government will be in the arranged marriage business.

My experience resulted in shyness and zero self-confidence.

My wife's dad was several inches shorter than her mother. Her grandfather was shorter than her grandmother. All of her uncles were married to women who were taller than them. Our society does tend to reward tall men but I think that you worried about it too much. My wife has an aquaintance who is pretty tall and actually brags about his height. Never mind that he is a big marshmallow with bad skin and a thief to top it off. It is actually pretty pathetic that he thinks that being taller makes him a better person in some way.

I am not much if any taller than you. I never really thought much about height. When someone would mention how tall an acquaintance was I usually would not recall that they were taller than I was. I dated women who were as tall or taller than me when I was single.

I always think that it looks kind of weird when a really short woman is with a guy who is much taller than her. My wife said that she was never comfortable dating guys that were much taller than her. One of my friends at work was super tall, almost as big as Andre' the Giant when he was in The Princess Bride. He actually also had some type of medical condition that caused him to get huge. I was shocked when I met his first wife and she was a little thing that was under five feet. They seemd happy together at first but sadly they split after a while mostly because she turned out to be a mean little badger of a woman who was always hurting his feelings. But they looked like they were some type of circus act when they were together. His second wife is much taller.

Point is, only on side gets societally excused for their biases, the other side is guilt shamed and demonized for theirs.

Women can do no wrong and rationalize away their dislikes, men are ripped up and down for prefering younger, fertile, symmetrical, in shape women.

OK, this just isn’t right.

Not because she is taller than him, but because, well . . .

He’s Dennis Kucinich . . . and she’s a babe.

Just not right.

Yeah, with Bezos, I don’t think genetics enter into it. He’s a short, old, bald, white guy.

Maybe the penchant for shiny things ? ? ?

I recall a story from a few years ago, how single Trump admin folks had trouble getting dates in DC. Indeed, Deplorables seem to be "discriminated against" regardless of height or weight. Ironically, it seems like liberals are the ones who run the fashion industry which undoubtedly facilitates the destruction of woman's self-esteem and self-worth....I hope they all choke on their bulimia.

This story is camoflauge around the REAL issue: it's what's in a person's heart that counts. A tall woman who avoids short men or visa versa, is a potential date to be avoided at all costs. Vanity kills, and love conquers all.

The chart you copied here from www.tallbabystuff.com is out dated for most parts of the USA these days. They even say in the article accompanying, "At least where we live, loads of adults appear taller than average, and we didn't know 5'10 could put a woman nearly off the charts (97% and up) in terms of percentiles."

My wife's mother was 5'10" and she was born in 1913. Kids in the USA these days tend to be both fat and tall.
