The Constitution is a social contract which binds the states together in a federated union. By extension, it establishes legitimacy of the authority of government over the individuals within the states.

I say it’s broken, and people continue on in the same old way simply out of fear of government power. It’s a tyranny, not a republic.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. Inertia is almost as strong as fear of government power. It’s broken.
