That may be a reference to Galena, Illinois rather than Galena, Ohio. The town in Illinois is certainly related to the mining of Galena.

“Notes. Worldwide, galena is a very common mineral and occurs in many places. In Ohio, this mineral has been reported in 11 counties. In northwestern Ohio crystals and granular aggregates of galena are found in cavities and fractures of dolostone along the Findlay Arch.”

They mined lead in Galena Illinois, hometown of President U.S. Grant.

Galena is a lead sulfide common to epithermal deposits, often associated with silver, gold, zinc, copper etc. It often comes in attractive cubic crystalline masses.
