Who can explain the sadistic glee with which certain conservatives cheered Trump's departure from office?
Five to six years ago, I was corresponding online, on a regular, frequent basis, with several strong conservatives. We all advocated for policies like smaller central government; lower taxes; First, Second and Tenth Amendment freedoms; restrictions on abortion; strict control of our borders, including merit-based immigration; and many other standard conservative positions.
That was then.
Along came the 2016 presidential campaign, and the finalists were Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump. As expected, most conservatives, as described above, were enthusiastically supportive of Trump. Unexpectedly, however, there was a significant proportion of conservatives, or those who claimed to be, who were not only opposed to Trump, but vehement "NeverTrumps." "Anybody but Trump" was their mantra. And they meant it. Anybody.
Why this is so is a mystery not yet fully explained.
In recent encounters (online) with some of them, I was amazed at their glee, caustically expressed, that Donald Trump had left the White House. According to them, Trump was the devil. He did nothing right. He made everything worse. He locked children in cages, then went golfing. He was Islamophobic and xenophobic. He was destroying the environment. He was recklessly risking nuclear war with North Korea and Iran. He was colluding with the Russians. He sold much of our scarce uranium to the Russians (oh, wait — that was Hillary, but even so, Trump was bad).
There is so much more and so little room here.

These “conservatives” like Romney and McCain were never conservatives. They are just commie leftists like Schumer and Pelosi. They just got joy from betraying the right.
Those conservatives, who are conservative, are the same ones that helped Hitler get into power. They believed all the propaganda that they were given.
Yes. A lot of Leftists have been masquerading as conservatives. Kristol, George Will, David Brooks, Romney, McCain, etc.
I think Conservatives who like Donald Trump should register as Democrats and eat that party from within. It will take a long time, but it seems more viable than any other approach.

They need to take a political interest profile and discover what their true political leanings are. They are not “conservatives”, unless they want to conserve socialism.
My initial concern about Trump was whether a “New Yorker” could be conservative enough?!
He turned out to be a great champion of our Constitutional Republic. He was true.

Eg Erick Erickson. Never Trump. Pretended to be Trump for professional reasons. Went anti Trump at earliest possible time.
Easy test: someone who would rather have Trump and 50/50 Senate = MAGA
Someone who would rather have Trump out and Loeffler + Perdue = SWAMP
Some sold out to the cheap labor lobby.
They only want to protect the wealth of their class. Not the country. The plebeians are viewed as a means of production rather than as countrymen.
Trump challenged the status quo. He dared to go there and they were afraid of him.
Except for a few chucklehead cases RINOs are paid agents - through bribe or blackmail. Their own feelings of guilt trigger intense hatred and anger but they can’t take it out on their evil masters.
Conservatives who don’t like Trump don’t dislike him because of his conservatism. They dislike him because of his recklessness and unwillingness to figure out how to get his way in DC. We should face the fact that Trump just lost it. I supported his policies but hated his attitude. He did not need to act they way he did to get things done.
If you expect people to be rational, you will always be disappointed.
It was a CLASS THING...nothing more. Lots of it here, too (hence my tag line).
They literally HATE US and they immediately figured out that Trump was one of us. And it wasn’t hard to figure out - when Trump was young (teens and adults) he would often visit his father’s worksites and have long talks with ‘the workers’ (they spoke English back then).
To them doing that was no different than going down in Caste level in India, so they wanted NOTHING to do with him.
His “attitude” is precisely why so many found him a breath of fresh air in a stagnant swamp of politics.
What an utterly detached from realty statement! He got more done in 4 years against unbelievable efforts to block and thwart him, then anyone other POTUS in history.

Conservatives don’t hate Trump. Republicans hate Trump, because he got in the way of them actually doing their job, which was to support socialism while providing the veneer of legitimate conservative advocacy.
Man is the GOP spin machine in overdrive. They don’t like what’s happening to Liz Cheney, do they?
Kevin McCarthy better watch his six too.
At some point, they better realize that Trump is the head of the GOP, surrender to him.
Then work to indict and convict all of the guilty bastards on the right FIRST - McConnell, Graham, Romney, Murkowski, Collins, Ryan, etc. Then indict and convict the socialists.
