Billionaire investor Chamath Palihapitiya tweeted out a link to a "Chamath for California Governor" campaign website on Tuesday. Palihapitiya supports an effort to force a recall vote for current California Governor Gavin Newsom which would lead to a special election later in 2021. Some California residents have been displeased with Newsom's performance, especially when it comes to a slower-than-expected vaccine rollout.

Chamath Palihapitiya would be wise not to be a write-in candidate.
I just saw his name involved in the wild escapes going on with Gamestop Stock
It was halted multiple times today.
Chamath Palihapitiya sounds like an very unpleasant venereal disease.
What could go wrong.
No mention of party. All green. I guess the only thing that qualifies him is his money. Can’t be president-foreign born. Reminds me of the fat blond who didn’t pay her hired help enough to shut up. In the meantime there’s an accomplished mayor in SD who could fix things. Sounds like a vanity run.
“I got chamath.”
“Chamath? Pally, I pity ya.”
I follow this guy very closely. He’s brilliant and has a very good, no BS mindset. I’m assuming that he’s a Dem, and given that I can imagine no better Dem. Joke away, but as a country we could do so, so, so much worse.
In Washington State the petitioner is responsible for all the upfront costs and attorney fees and must present a list of charges to the state supreme court for adjudication. If they approve any or all of the charges then the recall can move forward.
The petitioner then has a limited time frame to circulate a petition to the voters (the number of signers is a percentage of voters in the prior election) to get the measure on the ballot, provided all of the signatures are verified as voters, again while fronting all of the cost for the petition, verification process, and the election.
This guy is a huge Democratic donor. Yep, he’s trying to offset the recall campaign.
Why is he not running for office in India?
Let me add this link from two days ago on RealClearPolitics:

At the 1:02:30 mark, last question, he responds that the most important thing for the world going forward is “balance,” meaning centrism, rejection of extremes, ...
It’s a mistake for posters on this site to mock him. Yes, he can be smug and crude at points, but I view that as an occupational hazard for ultra-successful, high-IQ Silicon Valley types. But he stands vehemently opposed to a lot of the same things in SV that make us all here on FR apoplectic. Given that California is irretrievably blue, AND BECAUSE I SUSPECT HE WOULD WIN, I would actually send his campaign a contribution.
This is funny. Newsom's unpopularity has ZERO to do with the vaccine rollout. It's his lockdown policies and "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrisy. The current recall was initiated well before the vaccine was even authorized.
On the contrary. this is the best possible news to actually get Newsom out of office.
Recall petition is now at 77 percent with a month and a half left.
The vote is going to happen.
The Dem strategy was to not have a big name DEM on the ballot. And turn the recall vote into a partisan vote of “vote for Recall, get a Repub governor”.
But with a big name well financed silicon valley minority immigrant billionaire on the ballot, that will code as DEM for a lot of Dems willing to vote for recall.
Why not run in India?
The Sillycon Valley tech industry is mostly today is full of foreign borns with a few white guys with pursestrings and venture capital to blow on world conquest and pockets full of politicians to collude with.
California has no future. As Uncle Joe said, we are headed into a sea of darkness..
He is one of the ‘founders’ of the fwd.us immigration ‘reform’ lobby group.
From wiki..
he’s originally from Sri Lanka.
Chamath Palihapitiya is a Sri Lankan-born Canadian-American venture capitalist, engineer and the founder and CEO of Social Capital.
Maybe Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi will be his/her running mate.
