Mercy Dogs of the Great War

Dogs have accompanied men into war probably for most of human history, but WWI was the first war where they were used in an official and broad capacity to find the wounded.

Mercy dogs, also known as casualty dogs, or ambulance dogs, served on all sides of WWI, and saved thousands of lives.

It is history that deserves to be remembered.

Yes. And the break-through moment for German Shepherds. People saw how incredible these dogs were and carried those memories.

Strongheart had to be untrained from his security training and became the first real Dog Star. Rin Tin Tin would be taken as a puppy with one sister from a litter found and trained to become the biggest dog movie star of all. And they would change the landscape of the dog world forever.
