ONE light-year, the distance light travels in a year, at its speed of 186,000 miles per second, works out to about 5.9 TRILLION miles.

“NGC 2841 has a diameter of over 150,000 light-years, even larger than our own Milky Way.”

So if you could travel at the speed of light, 186,000 miles per second, it would take you 150 thousand years to go from one end of this galaxy to the other. Our Milky Way is ‘only’ ~100,000 light years across.
