Well, we have had five dogs in our married life, our dachshunds have been our life living to 16, 14, 14, 15 and devastatingly our Mimi at only 9.. Lost our little MiMi in August and haven’t recovered. We are struggling with thinking about another dog as our home has never not had one. But our ages are restrictive, we are active and decent health etc but I worry about getting a fur baby again and then think how horrible it would be to abandon it if we couldn’t see it through its life. There is a huge demand where we live for rescues and even though we look we can’t find the ideal for us at this stage of our lives. I pray and if God sees fit, there will be one put in our path.
I have 4 dogs right now...2 Irish Wolfhounds, a Berger Picard and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is a stray.
Yes, I also think about what would happen to my dogs if something happened to me. My husband would care for them, but if he goes first, there’s no one. My family and his family aren’t dog people.
I’m asking God to take me when I’m out of dogs. I hope that’s not too long a period because I’ve had a dog since I was 5 and can’t picture my life without one.
Maybe you could adopt mature dogs. That’s what I’m going to do when my Wolfhounds go to Heaven.
BTW, you’ll see all of them again. Get the book Animals and Christianity: A Book of Readings by Linzey and Regan. You’ll love it. It’s on Amazon, but you could probably find it elsewhere.
