"Then I will tell you a great secret, Captain. Perhaps the greatest of all time. The molecules of your body are the same molecules that make up this station and the nebula outside, that burn inside the stars themselves. We are starstuff, we are the universe made manifest, trying to figure itself out. As we have both learned, sometimes the universe requires a change of perspective."
Ambassador Delenn, A Distant Star
"I told you, Delenn, they will not speak to you."
"Then they will listen to me. I served the Council for 16 cycles. I was the chosen of Dukhat to replace him. I held him when he died. His blood is on my hands, his spirit in my eyes, his word on my lips. You will step aside in his name and mine, or .. in Valen's name, I will tear this ship apart with my bare hands until I find them. Move aside."
-- Minbari and Delenn in Babylon 5:"Severed Dreams"
"Three years. For three years I warned you this day was coming. But you would not listen. Pride, you said, presumption. And now the Shadows are on the move. The Centauri and the younger worlds are at war, the Narns have fallen. Even the Humans are fighting one another. The pride was yours, the presumption was yours. For a thousand years we have been awaiting for fulfilment of prophecy, and when it finally happens, you scorn it, you reject it. Because you no longer believe it yourselves. 'We stand between the candle and the star, between the darkness and the light.' You say the words, but your hearts are empty, your ears closed to the truth. You stand for nothing but your own petty interests. 'The problems of others are not our concern.' I do not blame you for standing silent in your shame. You, who knew what was coming, but refused to take up the burden of this war. If the warrior caste will not fight, then the rest of us will. If the Council has lost its way, if it will not lead, if we have abandoned our covenant with Valen, the Council should be broken, as was prophesied. We must stand with the others now, before it's too late. Between the worker caste and the religious caste we control two thirds of our forces. To you I say: listen to the voice of your conscience. Break the Council, and come with we. Our time of isolation is over. We move now, together, or not at all."
-- Delenn to Grey Council in Babylon 5:"Severed Dreams"
"This is Ambassador Delenn of the Minbari. Babylon 5 is under our protection. Withdraw, .. or be destroyed." [in the White Star!]
"Negative. We have authority here. Do not force us to engage your ship."
"Why not? Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else."
-- Delenn and Captain Drake in Babylon 5:"Severed Dreams"
RIP! Babylon 5 was a great show.
West Nile Virus. Also known as COVID-19.
She still lives in my heart, and on my DVDs. Goodbye Delenn.
I loved her character, she is really someone I would in a wife, strong but feminine, loyal, courageous and so on, I would argue she was one of the best female characters in a TV show ever.
RIP - a life ends far too soon
How's that for a run-on sentence.
Unhappy ping
Right after Tanya Roberts, same age. The entertainment Borg sure is upping the numbers here in Sacrifice Season, isn’t it.
RIP. My favorite show of all time. Hung out with Jerry Doyle in NYC years back at Sir Harry’s in the Waldorf. Drank all night with him and his wife. Great guy, great time. Another cast member who died too young.
GLC, that last set from ‘Severed Dreams’ is my absolute favorite Delenn line. That show was great, and Mira was a tremendous actress.
And Sax.....the exchange you mentioned was actually from Claudia Christian as Commander Ivanova, talking about the ‘Bonehead Maneuver’. She then looked at Lennier, and said “No offense”. Lennier replied, “None taken.”
Of the B5 cast, we’ve lost Furlan, Stephen Furst (Vir), Andreas Katsulas (G’Kar), Michael O’Hare (Commander Sinclair), Jerry Doyle (Garibaldi), Richard Biggs (Dr. Frankin), and Jeff Conaway (Zack Allen). And, although we only saw him in a few episodes, Tim Choate (Zathras). So, most of the main cast has left us.
Over half of the main cast has now gone "beyond the rim."
So yesterday we learned that an actress died by a UTI.
Today we learn that an actress died by West Nile Virus.
Interesting that under the Biden administration nobody is dying of Covid any more.
Horrible news. Another member of the cast of the best science fiction series ever broadcast is gone
—
Horrible indeed.
Such a shame Straczynski was never allow time or money to round out the series and finish Crusade.
Babylon 5 is the only SciFi series that spoke to the human condition, wonderment of the Universe, mystery, religion, and Good verses Evil. The acting was not always the best. The scripts, however, were memorable and all interconnected - something very rare in the SciFi movie world, if not unique .
Her acting made the role come alive and lent the rest of the story arc credence
I have the entire series, movies and all, maybe this is the time to watch it again for the 4th or 5th time.
Rest in Peace, Mira Furlan - you will be remembered for a long, long time.
RIP also: Michael O’Hare, Jerry Doyle, Richard Biggs, Bill Mumy, Stephen Furst, Peter Jurasik, Andreas Katsulas, Jeff Conaway, Tim Choate, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr
Oh man. That’s sad. I liked her as Delenn. B5 was a great show.
If folks read her Twitter feed, they might not miss her so much.
Wow.
Very sad news. I loved her outfits.
Shocking that they were truthful about the cause of death.
Perhaps because Biden is president now?
I will miss Mira Furlan. B5 was my favorite show of all time.
At first glimpse, B5 looked hokey. It didn’t take long watching to realize how in-depth the show was. Great acting from Mira and rest of the cast made that possible.
Okay, I never watched Babylon 5 before so after reading all the praise here for the series, I guess I will have to binge watch the episodes. I see that it is on Amazon Prime.
