i think a sure fire way to tell if one is a false prophet is not by what they say but by how they live. A person who claims to be devout and a prophet but obviously puts a great deal of importance on acquiring worldly possessions and living the good life is not a follower of Jesus and does not know Him, IMHO.
I think that's how you might tell a Christian, but that doesn't necessarily determine whether they would be a prophet. To wit: A fellow could be a great Christian, but a lousy prophet.
Consider The Gifts. Are all Christians healers? Does the inability to heal (or have knowledge, perform miracles, speak in tongues,) preclude whether someone lives like a Christian?
